People's Party will mainly compete in constituencies of regions in the 2020 general election while coordination will be sought from ethnic parties to contest constituencies of states, said party general secretary Ye Naing Aung.

"Generally, we will put our energy into competing in the regions. We don't say we will not compete in states. We will coordinate with ethnic parties. Based on coordination, we will review," he said.

Currently, ethnic parties from Kayin, Chin, Mon, Kachin and Kayah states have sought unity. The United Nationalities Alliance and Nationalities Brotherhood Federation formed with ethnic parties are still operating.

Ye Naing Aung said an alliance policy of ethnic parties will be announced at an appropriate time.

When People's Party was established, chairman Ko Ko Gyi and party leaders said allied relations would be built with ethnic parties.

Myanmar will hold general election in late 2020. According to the Union Election Commission, some parties are preparing for election while some have publicized their election manifestos.

The ruling National League for Democracy said it would try best to win a landslide in coming election like the previous ones. Meanwhile, the major opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party expressed its belief that it will be able to form a government. If it won, proportional representation would be used, the party added.

NBF formed with ethnic parties including Arakan National Party and Shan Nationalities Democratic Party announced in late September that it would try to form a coalition government.

People's Party has not set its election aims and objectives. But detailed will be announced at the end of this year, said Ye Naing Aung.

People's Party led by 88 student generation leaders was registered in August 2018.
