Parliament approves tax exemption for import of bullet-proof cars for State leaders

The Union Parliament has passed the proposal calling for exemption from special commodity tax and commercial tax on import of six bullet-proofed Toyota Land Cruisers to be used for State leaders and State-level foreign guests.

The proposal was submitted December 5 and approved on December 17 after a clarification made by Deputy Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry Maung Maung Win. 

The motion was passed by through voting. There were 359 votes for and 188 against the motion with three abstentions.

As the deputy minister submitted his proposal, he said,  "The purchase of those cars will ensure secure local trips for State leaders and transport of State-level foreign guests. Six Toyota Land Cruisers (bullet proof) with 2019 and 2020 models will be purchased. 

He said a budget of K1,249.998 million had been approved in the capital spending of the Central Machinery Department of the ministry for 2019-2020 fiscal year. 

The cars will be imported with Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) charges for Yangon. 

CIF (Yangon) value for the six cars is US$0.73592 million plus US$0.36796 million in special commodity tax and US$0.05519 million in commercial tax.
