The authorities found 115,961 people with their NRCs being duplicated two or three times, said Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) U Thein Soe.

The UEC chairman added the above in the consultation meeting on the completeness and correctness of the voter lists held on November 22 at the meeting hall of the UEC office.

In the meeting, the UEC chairman said the commission must cooperate with the relevant departments for the statistics in compiling the vote lists as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs, General Administration Department and the Ministries of Immigration and Population for other issues such as the registration of political parties and the nomination of parliamentary candidates.

In compiling the voting lists, in accordance with the relevant Hluttaw election laws, the population statistics compiled by the Township General Administration Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Office of the Head of the Township of the Ministry of Immigration and Population based on the population statistics tables specified by the commission. He said that the population registers compiled by the General Administration Department and the Office of the Head of the Township of the Ministry of Immigration and Population are key to the correctness of the voter registration, he said.

After completing the ground check inspection, the population statistics obtained by using computer software, people who have the same NRCs, people who don't have or incomplete NRCs, people who are under the age of 18, people whose date of birth is incomplete, and people with overlapping dates of birth were identified and verified. The verified lists have been sent to the respective Township Election Sub-Commission. The Township Head Offices of the relevant ministries, the UEC and township commission's branch offices have been conducting monthly coincidence verification since September 2022 based on the verified lists to make the basic voter lists accurate in a timely manner and the changes in number of those who died, and relocated and those who are the age of 18 and qualified in accordance with the law to obtain a NRC, said U Thein Soe.

The total population obtained from the ground matching test was 61,069,008 people (about 61.07 million) during the original pilot project, and since the remaining list of wards and villages were added in September, it has reached 61,214,099 people (over 61.214 million). These lists are a combination of the lists of the Ministry of Immigration and Population and the General Administration Department. According to the monthly census statistics obtained in cooperation with the relevant departments, according to the information obtained until October, the number of residents according to the law is 41,609,218. There are 29,284,909 people with NRCs, 12,163,723 people who don't have NRCs, including those under 18 years old, 785,007 people who are died, 105,712 people who have duplicated NRCs twice, 10,249 people who have duplicated NRCs three times, 6,594 people who newly made the NRCs, additional 360,576 people from the remaining list of the Ministry of Immigration and Population and 1,567,594 data corrections. The population statistics were also collected from the lists of the Ministry of Immigration and Population and the General Administration Department, said U Thein Soe.
