The National Unity Party (NUP) urged all stakeholders to strive for the success of the peace process step by step by being considerate of the people's lives and aspirations in a statement issued at the party’s 35th anniversary commemoration ceremony held on September 24 at the party's headquarters on University Avenue Road in Yangon.

In a statement, the NUP said that it sympathizes with the suffering of the people in a peaceful environment and that they have tried to achieve peace for ages, but they have not succeeded and people are facing great hardships for more than 70 years.

In addition, the NUP has stated in the party's statement that it will continue to cooperate with the peace process as a national work.

Furthermore, the NUP will oppose any violence that harms the interests of the people. With the concept of 'The National Unity Party always oriented to the benefit of the nation and the people', they will make joint efforts with the entire people for the success and smoothness of peace operations throughout the country, in the development of the social life of the state and the people for the rule of law and the stability of public life, it said.

The NUP will always strive to strengthen the nation's main foundation, 'ethnic unity', in accordance with the attitudes set by the party. As a political party, a great national force that aims to develop a union based on democracy and federalism, which is the life and desire of the ethnic people, it will stand firm, it said.

"Today, our National Unity Party has completed its 35th anniversary. Within the multi-party system, we were able to stand with dignity and stability. It went through five governments in 35 years. As a political party, the party registered for three times. We have experienced all kinds of worldly suffering. We were able to face and overcome all kinds of difficulties. At the moment, the party is firmly standing as a mature national political force. We strongly believe that it is because of the belief and conviction of the party members at all levels of the party organization that they have made efforts to stand like this," said U Han Shwe, Chairman of the NUP.

The NUP's 35-year term today is not the end, but the beginning. The party's goal and strategy, which is the party's long-term strengthening, must be continued, he said.

At the 35th anniversary ceremony of the NUP, party chairman U Han Shwe delivered the opening speech and his message was read by the party Vice Chairman U Thein Tun. The party General Secretary U Tun Yee presented the discussions of the Party Central Executive Committee; Discussion on behalf of those attending the ceremony, the party's statement of opinion issued on the party's 35th anniversary day and the message of the party chairman, the presentations of the central executive committee and regarding the party's statement of opinion, the opinions of those who attended the ceremony were obtained.

The Union Solidarity and Development Party, Myanmar Farmers Development Party and some ethnic parties also attended the ceremony.
