The National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) held an official meeting with the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), a non-NCA signatory at the office of the former in Nay Pyi Taw on March 18.

The meeting focused on regional developments including matters relating to education and health. We reached the agreement to meet again during April, said Kyaw Lin Oo, member of Peace Commission Support Group.

“Our NPRC met with the KNPP in Chiang Mai, Thailand and we had three times of unofficial meetings. We met again due to the result of the meeting held in Thailand. We were able to produce favourable results from the current meeting. We mainly discussed regional development measures, especially education and health. We had a frank discussion. We have a plan to keep on holding state-level meetings every month. Moreover, both sides reached the agreement to meet again before April,” said Kyaw Lin Oo.

“We discussed the matters relating to signing of the NCA. But, as all the people know, the NCA is now facing a crisis. The government side is also trying to reduce restrictions. The NCA signatories are the same matter. The KNPP wants to follow the NCA and so it is trying. We hope we will reach our destination we want to go,” said spokesperson Nel Phaloe of the KNPP Peace Implementation Committee.
