The National League for Democracy issued a statement on December 29 urging Arakan Army (AA) to release the two parliamentary representatives and one parliamentary candidate from the party as quickly as possible.

AA abducted Lower House MP Ni Ni May Myint from Taungup Township, Rakhine State Parliament member Min Aung and Upper House candidate Chit Chit Chaw on October 24.

Their families are overly concerned about the abductees as they have yet to be released while local people in the state live in fear, the statement said.

The NLD sent a letter to the ethnic parties on November 12 under the title of the union affairs to be envisioned for the future Myanmar. Regarding this, the NLD has received replies from AA and Asho Chin National Party, the statement said.

Today is the best opportunity for Myanmar to see the successful emergence of a democratic federal union after ending dictatorship, the NLD said.

Without losing such an opportunity, AA should release the kidnapped NLD members as quickly as possible paving the way for facilitating the union affairs to be envisioned for the future Myanmar. The NLD therefore strongly requested AA to release them promptly, the statement said.
