The National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) will hold a meeting to extend the emergency period for another six months, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council (SAC).

A similar NDSC meeting took place on January 31 this year to extend the emergency period for six months after it had passed one year since declaration on February 1, 2021. It is due to be over on July 31.

“We will continue to extend the period for second six months. On the day or after one day the completion of the period, we will call an NDSC meeting,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

Asked how to continue measures in the current political situation after the emergence period extension, the SAC spokesman said: “We will continue to act, according to the emergency provisions stated in the constitution.”

As per the constitution, a state of emergency can be extended to six months two times unless the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services shall complete his duties assigned after the dissolution of the Union Parliament.
