Myanmar's acting president meets Novosibirsk Governor to discuss strengthening Myanmar–Russia cooperation

A delegation led by Mr. Andrey Aleksandrovich Travnikov, Governor of Novosibirsk Region of the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Secuirty and Peace Commission,on November 4, according to the reports.

During the meeting, both sides discussed opportunities to further enhance cooperation between Myanmar and Russia, particularly with the Novosibirsk Region. The governor and his delegation expressed their admiration for Myanmar’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and traditions, which they observed during their visit, and shared that they had held productive meetings with Myanmar government officials.

The governor stated that upon returning to Novosibirsk, he would continue to promote Myanmar’s beauty and cultural magnificence among the Russian people and work to expand bilateral cooperation based on the positive outcomes of the visit. He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had given guidance to strengthen collaboration between Russia—including its regional governments—and Myanmar, which the Novosibirsk authorities are actively implementing.

The discussions covered a wide range of areas for cooperation, including economic, educational, health, cultural exchange, and tourism promotion. Both sides also explored possibilities for mutual trade expansion through the exchange of goods, as well as sending cultural delegations between Myanmar and Novosibirsk.

The governor’s visit was described as a successful and meaningful one that further strengthened friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and the Russian Federation, particularly the Novosibirsk Region. Both parties expressed their intention to continue expanding their partnership in the future.

In addition, discussions touched upon Myanmar’s upcoming multi-party democratic general elections, which are planned to be held freely and fairly. It was noted that Myanmar aims to continue its progress along the democratic path after the elections, and that Russia and the Novosibirsk Region expressed their support for the forthcoming democratic process in Myanmar.

Present at the meeting alongside Acting President and Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing were Council Secretary and Joint Secretary General, Vice-Senior General Ye Win Oo; Council Members including Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe; Union Ministers U Tin Oo Lwin, U Chit Swe, and Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein; and other officials. The Russian side was represented by Governor Travnikov, Russian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Iskander Azizov, and senior officials from the Novosibirsk regional government.
