Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Mr. Deng Xijiun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, at the Tatmadaw Guest House in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, both sides held a frank exchange of views on preparations to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). Discussions included the involvement of international witnesses—China among them—in the original signing of the NCA, as well as China’s ongoing support for Myanmar’s sovereignty and internal peace and development.
They also addressed strengthening the strategic partnership and long-standing friendship between the two countries as neighboring nations sharing a common vision for the future. A key point of the discussion was Myanmar's preparations to hold a free and fair general election in December, with China expressing support for the electoral process.
The use of the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) in the upcoming election was also a focal point. Myanmar extended an invitation to international election observation teams, including from China, to monitor the electoral process.
Further, both parties discussed cooperation on ensuring peace and stability in the border regions, as well as broader efforts to deepen friendly relations and bilateral cooperation.
Following the meeting, the Acting President presented the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine to Mr. Deng Xijiun. Officials provided a demonstration of its functions and answered questions from the Chinese delegation.
Also present at the meeting were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, and Lt-Gen Ko Ko Oo from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). Mr. Deng Xijiun was accompanied by members of his delegation.
