Myanmar will have difficulties with quarantine expenses in the long run as Covid-19 cases rise especially in Yangon, Mandalay and Ayeyawady regions with more and more people in quarantine, said Dr Than Tun Aung, head of Ayeyawady Region Public Health and Medical Services Department.

“As Mandalay, Yangon and Ayeyawady region see rising Covid-19 cases, expenses for quarantine, health workers and volunteers as well as for meals and drinking water are also increasing. We need to consider these,” he said.

The number of those in quarantine in those regions is increasing and there are over 6,100 quarantine sites with over 61,000 people across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.

“Those quarantine centers have long been receiving those in close contact with Covid patients and those coming from other affected regions. Well-wishers and regional Covid committees have to provide necessary assistance. We will have difficulty in the long run. Newcomers to the quarantine sites don’t want to use the personal items such as mosquito nets and blankets already used by the infected patients,” Dr Than Tun Aung commented.
