In order to control the spread of COVID-19 in Myanmar, Myanmar railways will reduce the numbers of trains for long distance as well as circular trains.
At the moment, only one train will be running for six main tracks in highway trains and in circular trains, it will reduce to 30 instead of 54 trains. In accordance with the travel restrictions by the national level central committee for prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, and as the numbers of commuters decline in the pandemic, some trains will be temporarily stopped.
In the past, there are 54 trains for circular train service, but now, the number has reduced to 30 for daily transportation. Therefore, in Yangon-Hlawga section, and Yangon-Toe Kyaung Galay section, previously, there are four runs in the morning and evening. But now, there will be only two runs for the morning and the evening. In Yangon-Mingalardon section, train service will be reduced into two in the morning and evening. In the afternoon, there will be four circular trains-anticlockwise and clockwise of Yangon as normal run. Postal trains and cargo trains from Yangon-Mandalay and Yangon-Myitkyina will be running as usual.
