Chairman of Myanmar Rice Federation U Ye Min Aung said in a press brief (1/2024) held on February 2 that Myanmar is planning to export broken rice and parboiled rice as a priority and reduce the export of rice to control the rising prices in domestic market.

“We are planning to export broken rice and parboiled rice as a priority and reduce the export of white rice to control the rising prices in domestic market. We will submit the letter to the respective ministry in February and March to get approval,” said U Ye Min Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Rice Federation.

Myanmar usually exports about more than 200,000 tonnes of rice in January, February and March but this year, it was planned to export only 150,000 tonnes, he said.

“We normally exported around 200,000 to 300,000 tonnes in January, February and March. We also reduced export of rice for the stability of domestic rice prices. Besides, we are also working for the stability or rice prices in the domestic market,” he added.

Concerning rice prices, it is important for the farmers to get reasonable prices and at the same time, they (Myanmar Rice Federation) also think about the consumers. At present, there is reserved rice, he continued.

“We are selling rice to the government staff, industrial zones’ staff, and grassroots with reasonable prices,” he added.
