Myanmar plans to export more rice from Rakhine State to Bangladesh

Myanmar exported 200,000 tons of rice, including 2,500 tons of rice from Rakhine State, to Bangladesh, and more rice from Rakhine State will be allowed to be exported, said Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo.

U Aung Naing Oo, Union Minister for Commerce and Chairman of the Regional Socio-Economic Development Work Committee, said at the 1/2023 business coordination meeting of the Rakhine State Socio-Economic Development Work Committee at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Commerce on April 3.

The Union Minister said during the State Administration Council Chairman's visit to Rakhine State, he was being instructed, "In the implementation of projects for the development of the state, the economic activities that can suit each region according to the region should be considered from all sides in the short and long term." "The Work Plan for Rakhine State Socio-Economic Development", a short-term/long-term project coordinated by the relevant Union Ministries and the Rakhine State Government, is being implemented in order to implement the stability and development of Rakhine State.

In connection with the Rakhine State, a memorandum of understanding on rice trade has been signed for rice trade with Bangladesh through a government-to-government link system. According to the agreement, Myanmar exported 200,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh, including 2,500 tons of rice from Rakhine State. The ministry will be allowed to export more rice from Rakhine State. Regarding the resettlement of refugees from Rakhine State and the procedures to be carried out, issues necessary for long-term livelihood will also be dealt with. The Union Minister continued to say that the project implementation process will be coordinated with relevant ministries for the purpose of socio-economic development in Rakhine State.

Then U Min Min, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Secretary of the Working Committee, gave a briefing on the activities of the Regional Socio-Economic Development Working Committee, and the Vice Chairmen of the Working Committee, the members of the working committee and those present discussed the activities of each ministry, and the meeting was adjourned.
