Myanmar, Nepal to mark the 16th anniversary of diplomatic ties

Both Myanmar and Nepal have planned to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, according to a joint press release issued on October 20. 

The statement comes after President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari visit to Myanmar from October 16 to 20. 

However, it did not mention the exact time of the events in 2020. In late 2020, Myanmar is due to hold a general election to elect a new government. 

The press release also stated that Myanmar's support for the success of the Nepali Government's "Visit Nepal Year (2020)" and the for the National Objective of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali" 

Moreover, the two sides reaffirmed their commitments to work closely, not only in bilateral context but laos in regional and multilateral fora, including BIMSTEC and the United Nations, based on shared views on issues of common interest. 

The President of Nepal, who visited Myanmar at the invitation of President Win Myint, met with the latter and the State Counsellor separately on October 17. Discussions were centered on bilateral friendship, relations and close cooperation in regional and international arenas. 

The two sides agreed to work in unison to facilitate the promotion of bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. 

During the five-day visit of the Nepali President, the two MoUs on cultural and tourism cooperation were signed.
