Thant Sin Maung, Minister for Transport and Communications, had a discussion with Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Japanese ambassador to Myanmar, about progress of work in upgrading Yangon circular railroad and Yangon-Mandalay railroad project at the office of the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on October 29.
Their meeting highlighted progress of work in upgrading Yangon circular railroad and Yangon-Mandalay railroad project and timely run of trains on this railroad section.
“Progress in Yangon circular railroad and Yangon-Mandalay railroad project assisted by Japan, and matters relating to coaches and timely run of the trains on these railroad sections were discussed,” said the official of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Yangon-Mandalay railroad project is divided into two phases. The phase one is from Yangon to Toungoo (166 miles) and the phase two from Toungoo to Mandalay (219 miles). It will be carried out by Japanese ODA loan and State’s fund.
The feasibility study for Toungoo-Mandalay railroad section was already conducted and the design drawing initiated in 2018 May will be finished in September in 2019.
A 166-mile-long Yangon-Toungoo is expected to complete in 2022 and a 219-mile-long Toungoo-Mandalay railroad section in 2023.
Japanese ODA loan of US$ 2.7 billion will be spent on upgrading Yangon-Mandalay railroad project which lasts for five years from 2018 to 2023.
