Myanmar has decided not to keep the office of the outgoing Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw, according to a press release.

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener's office was opened in Nay Pyi Taw on December 17, 2018, it said.

Although Myanmar has consistently opposed the authority that emerges from its decisions towards one country, it collaborated with Christine Schraner Burgener on a case-by-case basis and allowed to open the office in Myanmar, the statement said.

However, according to a UN statement issued on October 25, 2021, the UN Secretary-General has appointed a new Special Envoy to Myanmar. The new Special Envoy will succeed Christine Schraner Burgener.

Now Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener has completed term of office in Myanmar, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the UN on December 20 that it has decided not to allow to open the office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar.
