The 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting and related meetings, hosted by Myanmar and led by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, were held at Jasmine Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on November 20.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, who delivered a speech and opened the ceremony. After the opening ceremony, Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Htun Oo delivered a speech in accordance with the 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting agenda.
Union Minister U Mya Htun Oo said that transport is an important sector in connecting businesses, facilitating trade, developing socio-economic life and enhancing people-to-people connectivity. Over the past decades, ASEAN’s regional transport sector has made significant progress in strengthening connectivity and developing it as a sustainable transport sector. These developments reflect ASEAN’s leadership in the transport sector, and the efforts of our transport sector contribute to the vision of the ASEAN Connectivity Strategy 2025 and the ASEAN Economic Community Roadmap. This year marks the culmination of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategy and the start of new cooperation initiatives in line with the ASEAN Transport Plan (2026-2030). The discussions at this meeting are of great importance in setting strategic directions for the development of ASEAN’s transport sector in the coming decade. We believe that we can shape a prosperous, resilient and inclusive transport system for all people in line with the principles of partnership, solidarity and mutual respect. We will hold related meetings with our dialogue partners, including China, Japan and South Korea, in parallel with this meeting.
The meeting concluded with 11 agreed action plans, calling for a spirit of unity and cooperation to strengthen transport connectivity and deliver tangible results for the long-term benefit of the people.
The ASEAN Transport Ministers then endorsed the 2026 Action Plan, the Kuala Lumpur Transport Plan (2016-2025) Final Report, the ASEAN Transport Plan (2026-2030), the ASEAN Regional Action Plan for Combating Marine Debris, the ASEAN Roadmap for the Implementation of the ASEAN Electric Vehicle, the Digital Public Transport and Home Delivery Services, and the Strategic Plans for Enhancing Rail Transport Interoperability.
The 24th ASEAN and China Transport Ministers Meeting, the 23rd ASEAN and Japan Transport Ministers Meeting, the 16th ASEAN and Republic of Korea Transport Ministers Meeting were held as scheduled, and the ASEAN-China Transport Cooperation Strategic Plan (2026-2035), the ASEAN-Japan Cooperation Agenda (2025-2026) and the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Transport Roadmap (2026-2030) were approved, and all meetings were concluded.
The 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting and related meetings hosted by Myanmar were attended by a total of 187 participants, including ministers from ASEAN member states and dialogue partners, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and senior officials from relevant fields, and the Philippines will host the meetings in 2026.
