Myanmar expects trade value of $32.5bn, trade surplus of $500m for ongoing fiscal year

Myanmar’s trade value has been targeted to reach US$32.5 billion ($16.5 billion in exports and $16 billion in imports), while a trade surplus is targeted to be just around $500 million in the current 2023-2024 fiscal year, according to the State budget.

The trade value in the previous 2022-2023 financial year from April 2022 to March 2023 amounted to $33.925 billion, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

During that period, exports to foreign countries amounted to $16.575 billion, exceeding $1.084 billion when compared to the same period of the previous fiscal. In that period, the import value amounted to $17.349 billion, exceeding $2.489 billion compared to the same period of the previous year.

Myanmar exports agricultural products, animal products, marine products, minerals, forest products, finished industrial goods, and other goods to foreign countries.

Again, it mainly imports capital goods, raw materials, consumer goods, and CMP raw materials.

The National Export Strategy (2020-2025) is being implemented to promote exports. The strategy includes a variety of sectors such as basic foodstuffs, textiles, clothing, industrial and electrical goods, marine products, forest products, digital products and services, quality control, trade information, and innovation.

Myanmar's foreign trade value from October 2020 to September 2021 in the 2020-2021 amounted to $29.585 billion FY— $14.927 billion in exports and $14.658 billion in imports.
