The opening ceremony of the 8th UN Peacekeeping Officer Course, jointly organized by the Myanmar Armed Forces and the Indian Armed Forces, was held this morning (21 July) at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The course is designed to enhance the knowledge of Myanmar military officers and personnel on United Nations peacekeeping operations and responsibilities.
Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Vice-Senior General Soe Win; senior officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief; the Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command; Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur; military attachés; Indian military instructors; trainee officers from the Myanmar Armed Forces, and other officials.
At the event, Vice-Senior General Soe Win delivered the opening speech, followed by welcome remarks from the Indian Ambassador. An instructor from India’s Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) then gave a PowerPoint presentation explaining India’s involvement in UN peacekeeping operations.
This marks the 8th edition of the course. Between 2016 and 2019, 130 officers and 84 soldiers have participated in previous courses. For this session, 30 officers are expected to attend.
The course will cover both theoretical and practical training on topics such as the history, structure, and regulations of UN peacekeeping missions; codes of conduct for peacekeepers; civilian and child protection; civil-military cooperation; patrolling; convoy security; establishment of base camps; and Blue Helmet exercises. The training will run until 1 August.
