More than 2,100 IDP students pursue education in Rakhine

More than 2,100 students from the IDP camps in Rakhine State, are pursuing their education at the nearby schools in 2019-2020 Academic Year, according to the figures from the Ministry of Education.

At the session of the lower house parliament on September 3, Education Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi replied to the question raised by MP Ni Ni May Myint from Taungup Constituency, about the measures being taken for the education of students in the conflict-hit regions. 

“There are 53 IDP camps in seven townships in Rakhine State. A total of 2192 students living in the IDP camps are learning at the nearby schools close to the camps,” Dr. Myo Thein Gyi said. 

Three are 58 students from 11 IDP camps in Sittwe Township, 343 from eight IDP camps in Ponnagyun Township, two from one IDP camp in Pauktaw Township,  244 from six IDP camps in Yathaedaung Township, 632 from six IDP camps in Kyauktaw Township, 879 from 20 camps in MraukU Township, 34 from one camp in Minbya Township. There is no IDP students in Maungdaw and Buthidaung Townships.

Plan is under way to build the makeshift schools if the schools closed to the IDP camps built by the Rakhine State government are unable to receive the students.
