Ayeyawady--More than 1,000 workers from a garment factory in Kangyidaunt Township in Ayeyawady Region  are out of a job due to the closure of factory following a shortfall of raw materials from China.

The factory announced the shutdown on 28 February. Workers got one-month compensations and other entitlements.

Ma Su Pone Chit, a labor head said: “The factory announced the workers no need to come to the factory as from 29 February. Workers will have to return their uniforms and staff ID cards when they withdraw their salaries. Workers don’t want compensations. They want half of their salaries when the factory is closed. They want to return to work when the factory receives raw materials.”

Dr. Soe Win, Ayeyawady Region Minister for Immigration and Homan Resources made no reply when phoned by the Daily Eleven.

On 9 December, last year, the factory workers staged a protest. An agreement was reached between employer and employees.

Since 2014, the Chinese citizen-owned factory started its operation in the region.
