Locals say that Moe Kaung Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road near Moe Kaung Pagoda, Moe Kaung Village in Thaton Township has been detonated for the second time, disrupting transportation.

A local said that the Moe Kaung Bridge was detonated at around 11:19 pm on May 3.

He continued, “This time it was stronger than the first time it was detonated. The entire bridge, which had been repaired, was destroyed.”

Although the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road has been cut off, vehicles can still travel on the Paung-Thaton-Bilin district road and village roads, the local said.

“The rain poured down last night, so the village roads may be damaged, so people need to be careful to travel,” the local added.

On February 28, 2024, at about 3:30 am, the Moe Kaung Bridge was destroyed by a mine. The explosion completely destroyed the bridge, which was about 37 feet long and 48 feet wide, and also destroyed a house and several shops near the bridge, according to locals.
