Two train carriages with a locomotive derailed due to the detonation on a railroad section between Theinseik and Donwun stations in Thaton Township, announced the information team of the State Administration Council (SAC).
On July 17, No.82 downstream Mawlamyine-Yangon express train left Mawlamyine, Mon State and when the train arrived at mile post 123/17-15 between Theinseik and Donwun stations in Thaton Township, the tracks were broken for about one and a half feet due to the mine attack, and two carriages along with the locomotive derailed.
Due to the train derailment, passengers and staff were not injured, and the Theinseik-Donwun section was temporarily closed. The No.81 upstream express train, which regularly departs from Yangon, stopped at Kyaikto at 11:44 am.
It is reported that the No.81 upstream express train arrived at the place of the derailment. At 4:30 pm, the transfer of passengers was completed, and at 5:30 pm, the passengers are continued their journey to Yangon.
Officials of the region and local security forces went to the place where the railway derailment occurred to clear the area and inspect. Myanmar Railways employees are working to reopen the track as soon as possible.
The insurgent groups committed 206 mine attacks on railroads and train stations, 166 demining of train bridges and tracks and 42 arson attacks on station buildings and staff homes from February, 2021 until now, announced the information team.
