17 bamboo workers killed, 29 injured as six-wheeler overturns in Ottarathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw

A six-wheeler transporting bamboo poles overturned in Ottarathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, leaving 17 bamboo cutters dead and 29 others injured.

The accident occurred at around 1:50 pm on May 2, when the vehicle, driven by U Yan Lin Kyaw of Min Naung Village, Taung Nyo Group, was traveling from Lwin Tharyar Village to Moe Swe Village. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn on the left side of the road.

Of the 50 bamboo cutters on board, four escaped unhurt, while 17 lost their lives and 29 sustained injuries.

The victims were transported by charity vehicles to medical facilities, with the dead and some injured taken to the 1,000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital, while 10 injured were sent to Taung Nyo station hospital.

Member of the Nay Pyi Taw Council and the Chairman of the Township Management and Administration Committee visited the injured and bereaved families at the 1,000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital and provided financial assistance.
