A military officer quarantined in the area of Yangon Command after returning from India by flight of Myanmar National Airlines has tested positive for Covid-19, the Office of Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services reported on June 9.
The military has already released information that 18 military personnel arrived back in Myanmar by MNA flight on May 24 after doing training courses in India. They are in quarantine in the Yangon Command area and their swabs were sent for testing Covid-19 two times. Among them, four tested positive for the coronavirus. Then, tracing contacts with them started, and measures for quarantine and movement restrictions taken.
Those servicemen in quarantine had Covid-19 tests for the third time on June 8 at Defence Services Hospital (1,000-bed) in Mingaladon Township, and one more case was confirmed.
The officer was sent to Defence Services Liver Specialist Hospital (Mingaladon) for treatment. His health condition is stable, the military reported.
Contact tracing and quarantine measures are also being taken.
The Myanmar military started seeing infections when some of its servicemen tested positive while doing training in Russia. Then, a serviceman was infected with the virus in the Nay Pyi Taw Command area. Furthermore, some military personnel returning from India tested positive for Covid-19.
