The central election victory committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) has instructed party’s candidates to get trishaw men, horse-drawn cart drivers and boat rowers to play party’s election campaigning songs by paying them daily wages as there are no favourable conditions for procession or gathering during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The instruction was issued on September 8.
“Yes, it’s true. Sayar Zaw (Dr Zaw Myint Maung, vice chairman of the NLD) issued the instruction from Nay Pyi Taw,” said Dr Daw May Win Myint, member of the central election victory committee.
The instruction says the NLD candidates have been conducting election campaigns in their respective constituencies beginning September 8. Facing Covid-19 restrictions, they are no position to have any procession or gathering in their campaigns. Yet, they will be able to save election spending. The instruction however points out other ways of election campaigning. It calls for making lists of trishaw, horse-drawn cart, boat and motorboat stands in their constituencies. Each stand is to be provided with a cassette with a cordless amplifier or Bluetooth portable speaker. Within the campaigning period, a person from each stand is asked to play NLD election campaigning songs. The parliamentary candidates in the same constituency will have to cover the cost and those workers will be paid with daily wages.
