In a significant operation, 45.43 billion kyats’ worth of Ice (methamphetamine) was confiscated from the sea approximately 193 miles northwest of Kawthaung, in the Taninthayi Region, according to CCDAC Myanmar.
The Myanmar navy conducted security operations on February 17, during which the boat named Min Htet Tha-3 was thoroughly searched. Four individuals—Nyein Chan Lwin, Kyaw Lin Tun (aka) Kyaw Gyi, Hla Myint Tun, and Ye Kyaw Thu (aka) Ko Ye—were apprehended alongside the staggering haul of 1.298 tons of Ice.
The investigation revealed that the seized methamphetamine had been transported from Shan State to Yangon Region and was destined for Malaysia via sea, passing through the mouth of the Yangon River.
Legal action has been initiated, and authorities are diligently identifying the perpetrators involved in this intricate chain of crimes.
Notably, there have been previous instances of Ice drug trafficking to Malaysia by boat in Myanmar’s waters, with reports suggesting the involvement of businessmen in Myeik.
