Labour Attaché Office blacklists Thai factory for violating labour rights

Labour Attaché Office is planning to put Dole Thailand factory on the blacklist for violating labour rights and illegal sacking of over 100 Myanmar migrant workers in Prachaup Khiri Khan Province in southern Thailand, sources said.

The workers informed the Labour Attaché Office that they were dismissed and that they were demanded to pay Baht 3,500 if they want their jobs back.

The office sent a delegation from Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation (MOEAF) to the factory on September 29 and negotiated with local authorities to settle the dispute.

The factory is an international standard factory and manufacturing food products related with fruits. The factory granted about 30 off days annually and it had been given to workers who want to visit their native homes. But the factory gave dismissal letters to workers who failed to return to their jobs after 15 days during this year instead of stamping re-entry status.

The workers who were dismissed from the factory have served minimum four-year services and have been living in Thailand with certificates of identity (CI). The workers lodged a complaint against the factory owner under Section 199 of Thailand labour law as they were extorted into paying money in order to get re-appointed.

The Labour Attaché Office will put the factory on a blacklist as the factory was found to be violating labour rights and it will negotiate with Thailand’s Ministry of Labour to take action on the factory.

At the present, they are arranging the dismissed workers with jobs in QPP and Thaitan factories in the same province, according to the Labour Attaché Office.
