A complaint has been sent to Hlegu Township Election Sub-commission calling for an legal action against a polling station representative from Hlegu Township Union Solidarity and Development Party for using a fake election commission seal, said Tun Myint, member of the National League for Democracy’ committee for election victory.

While advance ballots were being collected under a mobile system in Panmyodaw Street, Myoma Ward, Hlegu Township, on October 30, the seal with the Union Election Commission local was reportedly used.

A report about the issue was received from the township NLD election victory committee and it has been instructed to report to the election sub-commission to take further action, said Tun Myint.

“The case must be opened in accord with the election commission law. It is a fake seal of the commission. The sub-commission concerned is also responsible for filing a lawsuit. We have complained to the commission to take action,” he added.

After three voters aged 60 and above had cast their advance votes, the polling station representative of a township NLD candidate found out that a fake seal was used and he made his complaint, said Hlegu Township NLD candidate Thein Tan.

He continued that the fake seal was brought by a female representative of USDP candidate Khin Maung Soe.

“This woman gave the seal to Kyaw Soe, who seems to be simple and honest. Then, he used the seal,” Thein Tan said.

The NLD candidate said they will be watching the township sub-commission whether it will take action or not.

Yangon North District Election Sub-commission chairman Maung Mmway said an inquiry was launched and the findings had been sent to the Yangon Region Election Sub-commission.

“I don’t know if the NLD file a lawsuit. I think the commission has to intervene with this. We have not been instructed yet. The report has been sent. That sub-commission has been suspended,” he said.

Regarding the matter, phone contacts were made with Hlegu Township Election Sub-commission and the Township USDP chairman but they didn’t pick up the phones.
