Sales in Nantphalon market in Tamu Township, Sagaing region are good due to traditional festivals in India, sources said.

“We have been having a good sale since September but it is improved more during this month. We actually like our currency depreciation here. Most of the food products came from Yangon and Mandalay. The exchange rate of Rupee to Myanmar Kyats is K2,010 per 100 Rupee and if the exchange rate is increased to K2,015 per 100 Rupee next day, we will earn more. Some businessmen stockpile on Rupees if the exchange rate is likely to increase,” said Kyaw San Lin from Tamu.

The market is mainly depended on Indian buyers and sold consumer and food products from China and Myanmar.

The market sees many visitors and large amount of transactions from September to February every year while the sale will be regular in the remaining months.

“Diwali festival will start soon. Harvest festival of Kathe race is being held. They gave presents to their families such as blankets and steam pots during the festival. We sold more Chinese blankets in this year. Food products have strong demand in every season. Each trader sent clothes and shoes with two 12-wheeled trucks and two six-wheeled trucks daily. We also sell more candles as it is a kind of lighting festival,” said a market seller.
