Government is making a detailed discussion with private hospitals in Yangon Region so they can accept Covid-19 patients for treatment and information will be released when approval is given, said Dr Khin Khin Gyi, director of Central Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health and Sports.

“We are coordinating and discussing with private hospitals to accept Covid-19 positive patients later. We will soon make it happen. Some hospitals are willing to accept. We will release the information,” she said.

She however declined to mention the list of those private hospitals to accept Covid-19 patients as detailed discussion still goes on.

During a coordination meeting on Covid-19 prevention, control and treatment held in Nay Pyi Taw on September 18, the union minister for health and sports said a detailed discussion was underway with private hospitals so that they could treat Covid-19 patients.

On September 19, Asia Royal Hospital issued a statement saying that it could not accept covid-19 patients. The statement also expressed sorrow and apologies for that.

Till the evening of September 25, Myanmar saw 8,514 Covid-19 patients and 172 deaths. As Yangon sees a spike in confirmed cases daily, its hospitals and Covid-19 treatment centers as well as quarantine centers are largely crowded. Measures are now being taken to set up more treatment centers.
