Govt. delegation and NCA-S EAO meet on Feb 16

Meeting between government delegation and representatives of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement- Signatories, Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAO) is held at National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) in Yangon on February 16 to cement ceasefire agreement.

A Peace Process Steering Team- PPST led by Padho Saw Hse Gay from Karen National Union (KNU) is met with government delegation to discuss about the implementation of agreements between government and ethnic armed groups, said Padho Saw Hse Gay.

Both sides discussed their opinions for the peace process in the meeting and the matters to continue emerged from the meeting, he said.

“The results that we want will not be emerged by mutual discussion and we have to be negotiated to implement the agreements,” he said.

Eighth meeting of the Joint Implementing Coordination Meeting (JICM) for the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was held at Nay Pyi Taw on January 8 and both sides reached an eight-point peace process agreement. The meeting held in Yangon is aimed to discuss how to implement the first of eight-point peace process agreement they agreed in the meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw.

The agreements reached at Nay Pyi Taw meeting are to do with work relating to Chapters 3 and 4 of the NCA and to cement ceasefire agreement.

Government delegation submitted some proposals including to hold Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JMC) meeting in the second week of March and the ethnic armed groups will discuss it to make a quick reply, said Tun Tun Oo, Vice Chairman of NRPC and Union Attorney General.

Both sides said the meeting held in Yangon is a positive move and its outcomes are good.
