Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the State Administration Council, installed a gold nut connecting the structures of Bago River Bridge (Thanlyin Bridge-3) in Yangon Region on December 17.
The construction of the bridge began in 2013 as a joint project between Japan International Cooperation Agency-JICA of Japan and Myanmar’s Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Construction, and other relevant ministries.
The bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, steel box, and PC box with a 75-tonne load capacity. It will be 8,638 feet long and 75 feet wide upon completion. The project has been completed by 94%, with the remaining work including placing concrete asphalt on the bridge and approach roads, railing and related facilities, and a toll plaza.
Once completed, the new bridge will help ease traffic congestion on Thanlyin Bridge-1. The Thilawa Special Economic Zone has seen booming businesses with local and foreign investments, which will improve the socioeconomic life of people from Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Kayan, and Thongwa townships, the SAC has announced.
The bridge will contribute to the development of Thilawa SEZ and Thanlyin region and create opportunities for people to access the Hpa-an-Myawady area through the East-West economic corridor, benefiting Mon and Kayin states for development and improving communication with regional countries.
