The funeral of former Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung is currently taking place.

The funeral ceremony began at 10 AM on October 8, and his remains will be transported to Taung Inn Myauk Inn Cemetery for cremation.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, the former Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, passed away at around 4 AM on October 6 at Mandalay General Hospital. He died while receiving treatment for cancer at the hospital.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung had been serving a 29-year prison sentence for 10 cases, including corruption charges. However, he was granted amnesty under a decree from the State Administration Council, dated October 6, 2024, under letter no. 102(1)/8/Council (2024.

He had been battling cancer since his tenure as Chief Minister of Mandalay Region and was undergoing treatment. He was detained on February 1, 2021.
