MAGWAY-The floods in Aunglan Township, Magway Region, already destroyed some bridges and nearly 100 houses. Moreover, three were missing due to the flood, according to the locals.

Due to torrential rain in Aunglan Township, Magway Region on August 3rd, flooding occurred in some villages and it destroyed hundred thousand acres of monsoon sesame plantations and nearly 100 houses.

Three people are now missing.

“Heavy rain hit Letpankhone village, Aunglan Township, on August 3rd. About 60 houses were destroyed. The villagers had to run away for their lives. Currently, we have yet to receive the aid. The victims are now taking shelter at their relatives. In our village, five were floating in the flood. Four were found dead. Likewise, cattle were floating. At present, we need the aids,” said a local from Letpankhone village.

“We had faced flooding when I was 10 years old. Now, I am over 60 years old. The flash flooding is the worst in over 50 years. We heard that some villagers were missing due to the flood. As a bridge in Shwe Pandaw village was broken down due to the flood, over 60 villages and over 30,000 populations had trouble denying transportation access. So, the villagers wanted to renovate the damaging Shwe Pandaw bridge,” said Nyan Thein from Shwe Pandaw village.

Although authorities are now going to the flood-hit villages aiming to support the aids to the victims, they were delayed in providing aid because the bridge was destroyed and roads were flooded.
