A five-year-old child died after falling from a YBS bus and being run over by a rear wheel at the Dala toll gate of the Korea-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, according to the Gyi Lay Gyi Social Welfare Association.
The incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. on February 23. The child, who lived in Dala Township, Yangon Region, had traveled to Yangon with his aunt to buy snacks and was returning to Dala when the accident happened.
“ The child came with his aunt. On the way back, he said he wanted to ride the bus across the bridge, so they boarded together. When the bus reached the toll gate and passed over the speed-reduction bump, the vehicle jolted. At that moment, the floorboard gave way and the child fell through. The aunt tried to grab him but couldn’t reach him in time. He was run over by the rear wheel. We were heading in that direction and helped when we saw what happened. The child was only five years old. According to their customs, we sent the body to the cemetery,” an official from the association said.
The child, a resident of Dala Township, was transported to Dala Township Public Hospital for examination before being sent to the cemetery, the association added.
