Fire at Mone Myoma Market destroys over 200 shops

Fire at Mone Myoma Market in Kyaukgyi Township, Bago Region on December 20 destroyed over 200 shops.

Some exile media and some posts on social media wrote that the fire at the Mone Myoma Market in Kyaukgyi Township was caused by the explosion of heavy weapons fired by the Tatmadaw. Information Team of State Administration Council (SAC) said that the fire was due to the explosion of gas cylinder in the market.

Eleven Media couldn’t confirm the cause of fire at Mone Myoma Market as majority of locals fled to other towns. During this month, clashes between Tatmadaw and KNU combined forces have intensified in Mone.

According to the statement issued by the Information Team of SAC, a gas cylinder from a shop in the market was exploded around 2:20 pm on December 20. The fierce fire destroyed 210 out of 238 shops in the market. It added that Tatmadaw is always protecting lives and properties of the people and avoid attacking public places.

Likewise, Thiri Mingalar market in Loikaw, Kayah State was burnt to ashes on December 10 and nearly all the shops in the market were destroyed.

Some exile media also wrote that the fire at the Thiri Mingalar market in Loikaw was caused by explosion of heavy weapon fired by the Tatmadaw. SAC Information Team issued a statement and said armed groups attacked the market using drop bombs.
