It has been learned that a family, against whom a case was filed and arrest warrants were issued in 2023 for providing financial support to some organizations, including the NUG, while residing abroad, was arrested and action has been taken against them upon their re-entry into Myanmar.
Thuzar Maung (aka) Rashidah Binti Abdul Azeez, who was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, formed the Myanmar Muslim Refugee Community (MMRC) and served as its chairperson. Using the financial profits obtained from this organization, she provided financial support to the NUG group and raised funds for the NUG group. Therefore, a case was opened against her at Myitsone Township Police Station under Anti-Terrorism Law Section 52(a). She was prosecuted at the Township Court under that law's Section 52(a)/Criminal Procedure Code Section 512. It is learned that the Township Court accepted and registered the case under Criminal Miscellaneous Case No. 9/2023 and issued an arrest warrant on January 31, 2023.
Currently, Thuzar Maung, her husband Saw Than Tin Win, and their three children were arrested while illegally re-entering Myanmar. According to the investigation findings, it was discovered that Thuzar Maung formed the MMRC organization, secured support from the UNHCR and NGO/INGO organizations, and then fraudulently claimed that the support received was provided by the MMRC to support illegal migrant workers. She also recruited people to become members, and facilitated illegal entrants in obtaining UNHCR refugee recognition documents under various pretexts. She used the financial profits gained for her family's benefit, made financial donations to the NUG and its subordinate organizations, and provided fund-raising support. Therefore, it has been learned that they will be further dealt with according to the law.
