The COVID-19 pandemic will not be overcome at all if there is failure to follow the prescribed instructions regarding 14 days of quarantine as a great difficulty, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has warned.

Aung San Suu Kyi, also chairperson of National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, held a video conference at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on April 1, the State Counsellor Office reported.

“Nowadays in the whole world, it is important for individuals to protect themselves and not to have close contact with each other. It is necessary to follow a 14-day quarantine period. It’s not a very long period. Unless we follow the instructions regarding 14 days of quarantine as a difficulty, we will not overcome the pandemic,” the State Counsellor said.

She stressed the need for mental strength saying that systematic control measures will help over the challenges. She also called for united cooperation and all stakeholders to educate the people about the prescribed instructions on COVID-19 until they understand clearly.

She then praised greater participation of the people in Myanmar when compared with other countries.

Through video conference, other participants including health officials and charity organizations reported on situations of those in quarantine and COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
