Ex-Union Minister U Min Thu charged with corruption

Former Union Minister U Min Thu has been charged under the anti-corruption law for obtaining over Ks67 million to buy NLD (National League for Democracy) T-shirts and bags to be used in the party’s election campaigning, Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) announced on the night of January 25.

An inquiry team of the Anti-Corruption Commission dealt with the complaint against U Min Thu, former union minister at the Office of the Union Government under the anti-corruption law.

According to the investigation, U Min Thu, while he was serving as union minister, received Ks31.5 million for 18,000 NLD T-shirts and Ks36 million for NLD bags in September 2020 for the party canvassing for votes in September 2020.

As he was found to have committed corruption by abusing his power and position, the first complaint was filed against him under section 55 of the anti-corruption law at the Phayagon Myoma police station in Ottarathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, and action is being taken to prosecute him.
