The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) issued a statement on November 22 demanding that the murderer of an elected parliamentary representative from the National League for Democracy (NLD) be exposed as quickly as possible for justice.

Htike Zaw from the NLD, who was elected as a Upper House MP representing Constituency No (1) of Shan State in the November 8 election was shot dead in Pintein Village, Naungpein Village-tract, Kyaukme District, northern Shan State, on November 21.

In the statement, SNLD offered its condolences for the assassination and strongly denounced such a terrorist act.

The SNLD urged authorities concerned to expose any murderer of the MP and bring them to justice as quickly as possible. The ethnic party also called for effective action as such terrorist acts have been frequently committed in Kyaukme Township.
