An earthquake struck Yangon, and residents reported feeling the tremors strongly, according to some locals living in the city.
The earthquake occurred at around 10:03 AM on March 3 and was significantly felt in townships such as Yankin, North Dagon, Latha, North Okkalapa, Thaketa, South Dagon, Thingangyun, and Kyauktada.
"It lasted for a few seconds. The shaking was sideways. It shook once, then shook again. It might have been an aftershock," said a resident of North Dagon Township.
The tremors were particularly noticeable in high-rise buildings, as reported by a resident of Yankin Township.
"In high-rise buildings, it was more noticeable. The building swayed quite a bit," said a resident of Yankin Township.
Regarding the earthquake occurrence, on March 3 at 10:03:13 AM Myanmar Standard Time, a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded. The earthquake’s epicenter was located within Myanmar, approximately 27 miles northwest of the Kaba Aye Seismological Observatory (about 7 miles southeast of Taikkyi town), at a latitude of 17.25° N, a longitude of 96.06° E, and a depth of 10 kilometers. This information was reported by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
