Cyclonic Storm “MOCHA” intensifies into a very severe cyclonic storm and reaches 495 nautical miles from Sittway

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced that cyclonic storm MOCHA intensifies into a very severe cyclonic storm and reaches 495 nautical miles from Sittway.

According to the observation at 09:30 hours M.S.T, the severe cyclonic storm “MOCHA” over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal has moved nearly northwards and intensifies into a very severe cyclonic storm.

It is centered at about 310 Nautical miles west-southwest of CoCo Island, 400 Nautical miles southwest of Hainggyigyun, and 495 Nautical miles south-southwest of Sittway.

The center pressure of Cyclonic Storm “MOCHA” will be 988 hPa and maximum wind speed near the center will be 75 to 85 miles per hour according to DMH.

According to the observation at 4:30 am on May 12, the maximum wind speed was around 60 to 70 miles per hour and five hours later, the wind speed was also increased.

The Cyclonic Storm “MOCHA” is likely to enter near Sittwe on May 14 and wind speed may reach over 100 miles per hour in Rakhine State, according to the DMH.
