The cyclone Mocha may affect 17 million people in Chin, Shan states and Sagaing, Magway, Bago and Mandalay regions in addition to Rakhine State, according to World Food Programme (WFP).

It was issued by the WFP's Advanced Disaster Analysis and Mapping (ADAM) Department and the cyclone may have a wind speed of 60 km/h, 90 km/h and 120 km/h.

The cities that will be affected by the highest wind speed of 120 kilometers per hour are mostly from Rakhine, Chin states and Sagaing region, and more than 1.5 million people will be affected, according to the WFP.

Similarly, UNHCR said that cyclone Mocha will hit Rakhine on Saturday or Sunday. WFP and partners are prioritizing on the ground preparedness measures to ensure the safety of community groups. If the needs become high, a back-up plan has been set up so that emergency response assistance can be carried out promptly.

In order to distribute information to the local communities about the approaching natural disaster and to plan the necessary advance measures, flood and landslide warnings are widely disseminated in relief centers, refugee camps and villages, the UNHCR said.

A monitoring program has been prepared, focusing on the areas with the highest risk of being affected. By preparing in this way, aid workers will be able to connect closely with public groups, and if there is an emergency, the aid workers will be able to respond promptly. Emergency relief materials are kept in reserve and stored safely in the relevant warehouses so that they can be distributed in a short time. The vessels and cars are kept in reserve so that they can be used if necessary, according to the UNHCR.

The weather departments predicted that the cyclone may enter Sittwe, Rakhine State on May 14.
