A Covid-19 testing center will be opened at Thuwunna Stadium in Thingangyun Township, Yangon, Region, on October 12 for local residents who have Covid-like symptoms such as fever and loss of sense of smell.

The center namely Test & Care Ayeyarwady Center being constructed by Yangon Region Public Health Department and Ayeyarwady Foundation is located opposite the office of Myanmar Football Federation.

The patients coming to the center will have Covid-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).

“Yangon Region Public Health Department and Ayeyarwady Foundation chairman U Zaw Zaw are establishing this center for those who have symptoms such as fever and loss of sense of smell. This center is for those who want to know testing results quickly,” said Dr Okga Phyo from the department.

Those who want to come to the testing center need to register by phone or online to get a token. The date and time will fixed depending on the patient’s condition.

If RDT is deemed necessary, instant tests will be carried out, and based on lab results, continued measures will be taken for treatment and quarantine.

If a patient tests positive for the coronavirus, he or she will be hospitalized at Ayeyarwady Covid-19 Treatment Center (Thuwunna) or sent to other treatment centers or public hospitals.

“U Zaw Zaw told us that initially, virus-positive patients will be treated at Ayeyarwady Center. But we cannot have enough space here. Then, we will send them to other treatment centers or public hospitals,” Dr Okga Phyo said.

He added that for those having tested negative, they may be put in quarantine and receive PCR tests.

The testing center will be staffed with about 40 volunteers.
