COVID-19 prone Yangon is teemed with people going to work, sources said.

Myanmar confirmed 181 COVID-19 patients and 141 of them are from the Yangon Region, according to announcements made by the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS).

The early period of the stay-home arrangement by the government was coincidence with the Thingyan holidays and now it is crowded after the holiday period.

“The business was not good as I had little customers in stay home period. Now I have customers but it was not as good as before. Traffic is jammed now,” said a taxi driver.

Small scaled businesses were reopened at the end of April and more factories were reopened after the government checked them on May 1.

Workers earning a bare living made traffic jams in Yangon and people going to work and return home are returned to normal in rush hours.

“We have to sell foods as we have our livings. I wear a mask and keep hand sanitizer. We have to keep on living like that. If not, our living will not be ok. We cannot stay at home all the time,” said a person selling food on push-cart.

The government instructed people living in some townships in Yangon including Insein Township, which has the highest number of COVID-19 patients in the region, to stay at home and sentenced fine to people who are not wearing masks on the outside to control the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Yangon residents worried that the outbreak of COVID-19 virus will be worsened as people are crowded in places such as Hledan and downtown Yangon where vendors are selling in the morning and evening.

The MOHS announced the reopen of factories and works on May 3 may reach to a condition in which the spread of the virus will be increased.
