Since its formation in January 2019, the Complaints and Appeals Committee of the Lower House of Parliament has received over 1,800 complaints, mostly related to land grabbing, said committee chairman and Lower House MP Myint Lwin for Pazundaung Township Constituency.
A lot of those complaints are also related to the Ministry of Home Affairs and judicial affairs, the State-run The Mirror Daily reported on January 15.
Myin Lwin said when complaints and appeals come to the committee, responsible ministries and commissions are informed, but those with incomplete facts and data are kept on record.
"We have responsibility to deal with any government mismanagement or public sufferings and losses," he said.
Regarding public complaints, the committee has the right to summon government ministries for hearings. And the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Union Supreme Court and Central Committee for Scrutinizing Confiscated Farmlands and Other Lands have been called and negotiations were made, Myint Lwin added.
Of the over 1,800 complaints, 1,551 were sent to relevant departments and there were over 900 replies.
Lower House MP Saw Tha Lay Saw, secretary of the complaints committee, also said: "The committee is beneficial, but committee members need to change their concepts."
