Heavy rains and rising Bago River water caused flooding in some wards of Bago town, where two separate drowning incidents occurred on September 2 and 4, leaving two men dead.

At around 3:30 pm on September 2, authorities received a report that a man had drowned on Mazin 1 Street in Mazin Ward, Bago. Upon inspection, they found 49-year-old U Than Zaw drowned near his home.

According to local residents, as floodwaters rose in the ward, U Than Zaw went by boat to collect water from a water tank on the ground floor of his house. He was later found drowned near the tank.

Similarly, another man drowned in a water channel near Myo-U-Kin in Quarter 5, Area 13, Oatta Myo Thit 7 Ward in Bago, on the evening of September 4.

The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Zin Bo Bo Htun, a resident of Myo-U-Kin Quarter 5, Area 13, Oatta Myo Thit 7 Ward in Bago.

According to his father, U Htun Htun Oo, at around 5:30 pm on September 4, he went to deliver rice and cooking oil to the family because floodwater had entered their home. At the time, Zin Bo Bo Htun had been drinking alcohol and went swimming in a pool about six feet deep and eight feet wide near their home. He was swept away by the strong current.

Family members and nearby residents then searched for him and later found Zin Bo Bo Htun dead, face down, in a water channel near Myo-U-Kin.

Since September 2, rising river levels and flooding in Bago town have forced nearly 500 flood-affected residents from some urban wards to temporary relief camps. Thirteen basic education schools have also been temporarily closed.
