Yangon—A 12-member Chinese medical expert team which will help Myanmar in the fight against the COVID-19, arrived in Yangon on the morning of April 8, according to the statement by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

The medical team was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe and officials.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai said: “The Chinese government sends the medical expert team to help Myanmar in the fight against COVID-19. The medical expert team has brought necessary medical supplies along to Myanmar. I believe that the medical expert team would help support Myanmar’s efforts to curb the spreads of COVID-19 through effective cooperation.”

Dr. Myint Htwe, Union Minister for Health and Sports said: “Myanmar thanks China for sending the medical expert team. I have great respect for China’s effort as it becomes the first country which can control the spread of COVID-19. China’s experience and measures are worth learning. Lab test facilities provided by China would help promote the lab skills for prevention, control, test and treatment of COVID-19. I believe thanks to China’s assistance, Myanmar would succeed in controlling COVID-19 swiftly and fighting it.”

The Chinese medical team is formed with the medical experts from Yunnan Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, Kunming Medical University No.2 Hospital and Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Yunnan Province, according the statement.

The medical team also donated 5.3 tons of medical supplies to Myanmar.
