The Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) announced yesterday that several Chinese nationals were arrested in Mong Hsu Township, southern Shan State, along with materials used for online financial fraud. They will be handed over to Chinese authorities.

According to the SSPP statement, the group was apprehended on the morning of March 23 in a forested area near Mong Chaung village tract, Mong Hsu Township. The arrests followed reports of an illegal cyber fraud syndicate operating in the area. Security forces seized multiple electronic devices, including mobile phones, iPads, and computers.

The arrested Chinese nationals will be transferred to the relevant Chinese authorities.

SSPP/SSA reiterated that online financial fraud operations, whether run by individuals or organized groups, are strictly prohibited within its controlled areas. The organization had previously issued a directive on May 13, 2024, warning against harboring such groups. SSPP/SSA also stated that anyone found involved in online fraud activities would face strict legal action.
